I began my counselling career in 2011 after qualifying with a Diploma in the Theory and Practice of Counselling, with foundations firmly rooted in the person-centred approach.
My professional background began in Learning Disability Nursing, having gained my Diploma in Nursing (Learning Disabilities) in 1995. I went on to achieve a Master’s Degree in Social Welfare (Learning Disabilities) in 2001, an Advanced Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in 2004, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education in 2006.
The early part of my counselling career was spent within Sexual Health Services, where I specialised in working with individuals newly diagnosed with HIV and supporting members of the LGBT community, particularly around the coming-out process and the mental health needs of young adults. Alongside this, I co-chaired an LGBT youth group focusing on sexual health and emotional wellbeing.
I have also held academic roles, including Senior Lecturer in Learning Disability Nursing, where I led modules on both Diploma and Degree programmes, contributed to curriculum design, and delivered teaching across nursing and paramedic courses, as well as to students on the LEAP programme—a pre-degree access course for individuals entering higher education through non-traditional routes.
In 2012, I established my private counselling practice, working with charitable organisations and developing specialisms in Transgender therapy, Human Rights counselling, and supporting young adults who have experienced discrimination or disadvantage.
In 2017, I became a Government-approved Disability Analyst, establishing my own limited company to provide consultancy services alongside my private practice.
In 2023, I joined a Children’s Hospice as a counsellor, supporting families of terminally ill children and those coping with loss through long-term illness or sudden bereavement. Building on this experience, I completed an Advanced Certificate in Couples Counselling in February 2024, qualifying as a Couples Therapist.
I currently work as both a Lecturer in Counselling and a GP Practice Counsellor, roles that allow me to combine my passion for education with my ongoing commitment to person-centred, inclusive, and compassionate therapeutic practice.
